What are Advanced Paramedic Certifications?

Advanced certifications validate and identify paramedics with superior knowledge and expertise in particular specialties of paramedicine.

Immediate Action Medicine (IA MED) focuses on test preparation for all of the exams created by the Board for Critical Care Transport Paramedic Certification® (BCCTPC®), including:

Since its inception in 2002, the BCCTPC® has become the gold standard in advanced paramedic certification and is widely recognized as the leading authority in paramedic specialty credentialing.

Why Should I Get Certified?

BCCTPC® certifications clearly identify and separate exceptional paramedics from the rest of the workforce. They also inform employers that you are an extremely motivated and competent employee: an expert paramedic. As such, certification can aid in:

  • Employment
  • Promotion
  • Program Recognition
  • Public Reassurance
  • Professional Development
  • Wage Raise
  • Job Security

In particular, most flight paramedic employers - including the largest corporations, such as Air Methods and Reach Air – require all employees to pass the FP-C within two years of being hired.

Being certified during the application process can make you a more attractive candidate by distinguishing you from other applicants and by saving the organization money by not having to pay for your test preparation and exam fees (which are a drop in the bucket if the certification helps define your career).

Additionally, the newly developed and highly anticipated TP-C exam was created in partnership with US Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) and the National Tactical Emergency Medical Support Initiative Council (NTIC) in order to create a certification that is recognized by military and civilian organizations alike. It is the first of its kind it is the future of tactical medicine.

How Do I Get Certified?

Choose Your Certification

Although many paramedics already know which specialty they want to enter, some do not. If you are interested in furthering your career, but do not know which field to enter, refer to our specialty overviews here to learn more about the specifics of each line of work.

Train and Prepare

The BCCTPC® exams distinguish you for a reason, and that’s because they are difficult
and require knowledge that you do not learn during initial paramedic training.
Because of this, preparation is essential to your success.

There are many different ways to study for the exam, but IAMED has successfully
trained candidates since 2011 and knows exactly what you need to succeed.

Graduates from IA MED’s courses have an overall success rate greater than 90%, compared to the national average of 62%, and is a leader in advanced paramedic certification preparation. Our instructors are Physician Assistants and Advanced Tactical Practitioners with decades of experience as paramedics in critical care, flight medicine, and special operations. Students regularly travel across the United States to attend our courses and we have regularly hosted international students. If you are unable to attend a course or choose to study on your own, IA MED’s study guides are the best option for self-preparation. Unlike textbooks, which are dense and filled with information not related to the certifications, IA MED’s study guides are refined and distilled down to the essential material, which is presented in a clear, concise, and efficient manner. Testing is available in both written and computer formats, and is offered internationally. If you are taking an IA MED course, we highly recommend you sit for the exam one full day after you complete the course.

Do not study during your day off so that you can let your mind rest and recover from four days of intensive learning. Studies have shown this is the most effective learning technique.

Exam requirements: FP-C, CCP-C, and TP-C

Exam registration instructions can be found here.

Take the Test

If you’ve taken an IA MED course, or followed a disciplined study program with the help of our study guide, then go into the test with confidence. Take a deep breath, and knock it out. If you’ve taken the computer-based test, you will receive your score immediately. The passing score is mathematically determined based on the test, but it is usually just under 75%. It’s time to celebrate.

Exam locations: FP-C, CCP-Cand TP-C
